This WEO analytical chapter studies the economic effects of population aging. First, it assesses empirical evidence of healthy aging and implications for older individuals’ labor market outcomes, such as labor supply, productivity, and earnings. Next, it simulates the global economic implications of demographic shifts on growth, interest rates, and fiscal and external balances and explores how healthy aging and other policies can help.
